Subject: The Royal Film Commission - Jordan (RFC) is pleased to invite you to participate in an open discussion with the team of “Mahbas” Film

Time & Date: Saturday, 18th March 2017. From 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Location: Royal Film Commission, Jabal Amman 1st Circle – 5 Omar Bin el-Khattab St.

About the discussion: In the first part of this open discussion, the writer/director Sophie Boutros and the writer/producer Nadia Eliewat will discuss Mahbas’s journey from script to theaters. It will be followed by a focus on Boutros and Eliewat’s co-writing of the script and then directing and producing it. 

The second part will provide an understanding of the challenges of making a film while having a full -time job.

About the instructors: 

Sophie Boutros: co-writer/director

Sophie Boutros earned a Bachelor Degree in Directing for TV and Film at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), Lebanon. For six years after her graduation, Sophie worked as a director on several TV shows in Lebanon and Dubai.

Sophie started her career as a music video director with Julia Boutros “La B’ahlamak” which was followed by a series of videos for other A-list Arab singers like Rashid El Majid, Abdul Majid Abdalla, Nancy Ajram, Nawal Kuweitiye among others.

Boutros played a major role in founding the Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Communication at the American University of Dubai (AUD), where she currently works. MAHBAS (or SOLITAIRE) is her first feature set in Lebanon; it premiered at the Dubai international Film Festival 2016, to be released in theatres in March 2017. 

Nadia Eliewat: co-writer/producer 

Nadia Eliewat – M.F.A in Cinematic Arts (screenwriting & producing) - RSICA 2010

Eliewat is a producer and screenwriter whose passion lies in finding new stories to tell and helping create new voices through education.

In 2012, Eliewat produced her first awar-winning Jordanian feature film “When Monaliza Smiled” that was theatrically released in Jordan and Morocco, participated in many festivals worldwide after the international premiere at Dubai International Film Festival 2012.

In 2013, Eliewat started co-writing and producing her second feature film SOLITAIRE.  

Eliewat teaches screenwriting and production at the American University in Dubai.
