Ahmed Saleh, 11 min, Short Animation, in Arabic with English subtitles, Jordan/ Palestine/ Germany, 2016

A cruel war has taken two brothers’ home. Their mother over protects them, anxious her sons could come in danger if they leave the house. But the boys chase their dream to play a music instrument they’ve fallen in love with: a beautiful oud. They collect scrap metal to earn money and find out that their mother’s fears were justified. But as strong birds will always fly, the two boys become one to overcome their trauma.

The film has won the Gold Medal at the 2016 Student Academy Awards for Best Foreign Animation. It has recently competed for the Muhr Short Films Competition at Dubai International Film Festival, where it had its World Premiere. It was also screened by the RFC in Amman.

Colors of Resistance

Areeb Zuaiter, 35 min, documentary, in English with Arabic subtitles, Jordan/ Palestine/ USA, 2018

“Colors of Resistance” is a personal journey that questions the concept of belonging to a place that is struggling to survive, inside and outside its own borders. A painter, a comedian, a poet, a hip hop artist and a sole singer have figured out ways to solidify their belonging to Palestine – the very place that is being deprived of its own right to exist. Regardless of their generation, gender or profession, these artists have used their various voices to challenge the annihilation of their identity.

The film was awarded at Colorado International Activism Film Festival, Spotlight Documentary Film Awards and London Independent Film Awards. It was screened at several film festivals including: New Haven Documentary Film Festival, Georgia Documentary Film Festival, Social Political Short Film Festival, Arab Film Festival @ Arab American National Museum, Docs Without Borders Film Festival, Long Story Shorts International Film Festival. It was also screened by the RFC in Amman.

We thank the director Areeb Zuaiter for her cooperation.
