“The Orchestra of
Blinds” (L’Orchestre Des Aveugles)
Mohamed Mouftakir, 110 min,
Social Comedy, Arabic with English subtitles, Morocco, 2014
During the first years of
the reign of Hassan II, Houcine - a fan of the newly enthroned king
– leads a popular orchestra. The musicians of this special orchestra
pretend sometimes to be blind in order to play at parties reserved
for women and organized by conservative Moroccan families.
Houcine and his wife, Halima,
live in a lively family house, with colorful characters who live to
the rhythm of the orchestra and its traditional women dancers (“Cheikhates”).
Houcine is also the father of Mimou and wants the best for his son.
But Mimou falls in love with the neighbour’s maid, and in order not
to disappoint his father he fakes his school grades.
“The Orchestra of Blinds”
won the Golden Tanit at Carthage Film Festival and the Golden Lion
Award at Oran Film Festival 2015, as well as Best Director and Best
Music Awards at the National Film Festival of Tangier.
We thank director Mohamed
Mouftakir for his cooperation.
