The Royal Film Commission - Jordan (RFC) is pleased to invite you to attend a discussion with the producer of "The Thinking Garden" Elizabeth Vibert.

About the seminar: The Thinking Garden is a documentary about South African women's grassroots efforts to combat food insecurity, climate change, structural poverty and HIV/AIDS. The producer, Elizabeth Vibret, will be discussing the intersection between academic research and filmmaking, as well as using research for documentaries.

About the instructor: Elizabeth Vibert is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Victoria.

She has a PhD in Modern History from Oxford University. Vibret is the co-writer and co-producer of the documentary “The Thinking Garden”, based on her research on South African women’s grassroots efforts to combat food insecurity, climate change, and other challenges.

Her main research interests are colonialism, food sovereignty, history of poverty and the cultural construction of race and gender. Her current research projects explore: the lived experience of rural poverty for generations of women in South Africa during and after apartheid, and processes of racialization in colonial Nova Scotia, with a focus on intersections of poverty, gender and race.

This discussion is aimed at: Filmmakers, filmmaking student, journalists, researchers and anyone who has a particular interest in documentary filmmaking.
