The Royal Film Commission - Jordan (RFC) announced today the conclusion of the first phase of the TV Series Development Fund, whereby eight projects were selected.
The selection was made on 3rd May 2018 by an independent Jury that included: Fadi Ismail, Director of Group Drama, O3 Productions/ MBC Group; TV consultant Layaly Badr, former Creative & Sales Managing Director at Rotana Studios and Content Rights Managing Director at the Arab Radio & Television Network (ART); and British Writer, Producer and Mentor Margaret Glover, who has also led workshops for the Arvon Foundation, British Film Festival in Kurdistan, EU Media-funded Low-Budget Film Forum, Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), and Women in Film & Television (Toronto).
The selected projects and teams are: “On Set” written by Jana Zeinddine and produced by Mais Salman; “Forgotten Princesses” written by Jamal Bakeer and directed by Asad Fouladkar; “Rafaa” written and produced by Alaa AlAsad; “Jorh Daboos” written by Hidayah Tariq; “Al Marsoud” written by Rifqi Assaf; “Lizard’s Tale” co-written by Thouraya Hamda and Emad Mohtaseb and produced by Jude Kawwa; “Uncovering Jordan” written by Deema Dabis; “The Oasis” written by Aseel Mansour.
Commenting on this selection, Fadi Ismail: “I believe that the selected submitted projects showed in many cases creativity, innovation, and out of the box ideas. Other projects, while depending on recognized genres still managed to introduce dramatic twists that made them stand out. I feel that we have seen promising creative talents that deserve to be supported and developed which is exactly what the RFC has been doing and this is what the training program aims to achieve.”
Short-listed teams will undertake a three-month training program supervised by Margaret Glover, between May and August 2018. The selected teams will then pitch their developed TV Series to a second Jury who will decide on one or two grants recipients, up to 10,000 Jordanian Dinars each.
