Support to
Film-Related Projects through the Cultural & Creative Accelerator
Amman – 12
July 2020
The Royal
Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) and VentureX signed today a
Memorandum of Understanding to support, develop and sustain the
filmmaking industry. This partnership seeks to place Jordan at the
forefront of creativity and innovation. The creative industry is
undoubtedly an important driver in our economy, but doesn’t have
sufficient support to allow a creative entrepreneurial ecosystem to
thrive.
While most
accelerators focus on tech companies, the Cultural and and Creative
Accelerator is being built from the bottom-up with creative
entrepreneurs in mind, who will help artists and creative businesses
to overcome the challenges and risks associated with a startup. It
has been established by VentureX in partnership with the Jordanian
Ministry of Culture.
Film-related
projects – ranging from an idea to be developed to an existing
project that needs revamping – can submit for support as of July .
Selected projects will benefit from a three-phase support: Advisory,
Mentorship, Funding and Administrative Support.
The project
also aims to create educational programs for Jordanians working or
aspiring to work in the film industry, promote film culture
throughout Jordan and positioning Jordan as a location for
international audio-visual productions.
The
Jordanian film industry witnessed a big boom over the last decade,
after attracting a number of international award-winning films; a
success that could not have been achieved without the proper and
efficient film infrastructure.
The Minister
of Culture, Dr. Bassem Al-Tuwaisi, stressed that the opportunities
that partnerships can generate through the accelerator and that
benefit Jordan’s creative and cultural industries play a vital role
in the economy by providing an innovative and entrepreneurial
ecosystem.
Commenting
on this partnership, Mohannad al-Bakri, Managing Director of the RFC
said: “Young and creative minds in Jordan have something special to
add to the way we create or consume films. We want to capitalize on
the unique industry talent pool to empower the filmmaking market,
through adopting new ideas and helping them achieve the best
potential growth. We strongly believe that this project will be an
opportunity for Jordanian talent to offer new services to the
industry.”
Yousef M.
Hamidaddin, Managing Partner of VentureX, went on to say: “Our
partnership with the RFC is about developing a toolbox dedicated to
unleash the creative potential of those working in the film
industry. We want to connect participants with a supportive network
and resources through mentoring and engagement.”
Hamidaddin
also underlined the importance of the Ministry of Culture’s
assistance in helping the cinema and creative industries, and which
reflects the true partnership between the public and private
sectors.
Al-Tuwaisi
praised the roles of the RFC and VentureX in supporting new ideas
and Jordanian talent, as well as giving space to those working in
the cultural and artistic fields by providing them with the needed
resources and guidance to place Jordan at the forefront of
creativity and innovation.
