The Royal Film Commission Jordan | THINK REEL: A SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR FILMMAKERS

THINK REEL: A SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR FILMMAKERS

Amman, 30 March 2021 - The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) and Think Barter (TB) signed an agreement today that will benefit Jordanian filmmakers during this pandemic, which has greatly affected the livelihood of freelancers working in the audio-visual field.

Film professionals, who have registered their profile in the RFC’s Production Directory in the various filmmaking categories, will be able to benefit from this program called “Think Reel”. TB will waive its yearly membership - a value of 350 Jordanian Dinars. Filmmakers will be linked to other people registered on the TB network and therefore get valuable opportunities to engage in barter deals. They will receive support in exchange for providing their own services, in addition to the possibility of mentorship in their field.

“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been thinking at the Royal Film Commission about ways to support filmmakers in Jordan. Funding is scarce and many film projects have been cancelled. Freelancers in particular have lost many work opportunities and, consequently, their economic security is threatened. We hope that “Think Reel” will give them possibilities of employment and alleviate their current hardship.” said Mohannad Al Bakri, Managing Director of the RFC.

Nesreen Obeidat, Founder & CEO of Think Barter Network, further commented saying: " We are pleased to welcome RFC freelancers to join Think Barter’s network. We believe we will be able to match them with corporate businesses and secure new job opportunities for them. Meanwhile, we can offset part of their cash expenses and help them expand during this tough economic situation."

The collaboration between the two entities is built upon the complementary strengths of each party, whereby each brings its specific experience and expertise in supporting skilled individuals in the film industry and providing them with employment opportunities.
An open online Q&A session on the RFC’s social media platforms is scheduled for Thursday 1st April at 1 pm, during which both parties will explain the content of “Think Reel”, the process of its implementation and will answer any queries from filmmakers.
