Amman,17 April 2022 - The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) is pleased and proud to announce that the debut feature film “Inshallah Walad” (or “Inshallah A Boy”), directed by the Jordanian filmmaker Amjad Al-Rasheed, has been selected to compete at the Critics’ Week, during the 76th edition of Cannes Film Festival next May. This is the first time a Jordanian film competes in this prestigious festival.
The 90-minute film was all shot in the Jordanian Capital, Amman, for five weeks in 2022. It received full facilitation services from the RFC, in addition to a production grant in 2019 and a post-production grant in 2022, both from the Jordan Film Fund/RFC. It also benefited from the financial incentives dedicated to Jordanian productions offered by the RFC.
Commenting on this great achievement, Mohannad Al-Bakri, Managing Director of the RFC, said: “Jordanian filmmakers are reaching new horizons with their passion, perseverance and talent. They are now telling their stories to the World, and Cannes is the most sought-after platform for this”.
The film is produced by Imaginarium Films and is starring Muna Hawa, Haitham Al-Omari, Salwa Nakkara, Yumna Marwan, Mohammad AI-Jizawi and Eslam Al-Awadi. It tells the story of a young widow, Nawal, who is in danger of losing hers and her daughter’s home. Nawal is trapped and deprived of options, but she decides to fight back.
The Critics’ Week is open to films from all over the World, short or long, provided it is the first or the second for its director.
