Cairo Time

Amir Ramses, 110 min, Drama/ Comedy/ Romance, Arabic with English subtitles, Egypt, 2014

Three stories take place over the course of a single day in Cairo. Lila, a retired actress, is looking for Sameh, her last co-star. Salma is dating Wael and is in Wael’s friend’s apartment, after their marriage breaks down. Hazem is a young drug dealer on the run from Alexandria to Cairo and picks up an old man with Alzheimer’s disease, who takes an impossible journey looking for the last person he remembers.

The six characters find themselves at decisive points of their lives, which although disparate are brought together by destiny, and are performed by Egyptian cinema’s legends: Nour el Sharif, Mervat Amin and Samir Sabry.

The film premiered at Dubai International Film Festival 2014. It won Best Actor Award at Luxor European Film Festival and Malmo Arab Film Festival, Best Screenplay at Oran Film Festival, Best Supporting Actress at Khouribga African Film Festival. “Cairo Time” was also screened at Geneva International Oriental Film Festival, Arabian Sights Film Festival Washington and Silk Road Film Festival China. In Amman, it was showcased during the Arab Film Festival organized by the RFC in 2015.

We thank the director Amir Ramsis for his cooperation.
