About the workshop:

The Royal Film Commission - Jordan (RFC) is pleased to invite your children to take part in the “Kids Film Club – Summer Edition 2018”. 

Time & Date:
From 19th until 29th June 2018, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

About the sessions:
The Kids Film Club is an intensive educational program in filmmaking for children.  In a short period of 10 days, participating kids will be instructed on the basics of writing, directing, camera and digital editing. Afterwards, each participant writes, directs, shoots and edits a short film under the supervision of a trained professional, Mohammed al-Darradji. 

Language of the sessions:
Arabic and English.

About the Trainer: 
Mohammed al-Darradji 

Born in Baghdad, 1978, Mohammed al-Darradji completed his two Masters degrees in Cinematography and Directing at the Northern Film School in Leeds.

He established the Iraqi Independent Film Center for the purpose of cultivating an independent spirit and approach for feature films and shorts for both experienced and emerging filmmakers alike.

Fees: 70 Jordanian Dinars per child. 

The Kids Film Club – Summer Edition includes meals served for the participants throughout the workshop.

Please do not enroll your child for the workshop if he/she can’t fully commit to these full-time training sessions for 10 days. Also note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

Mohamed Al-Daradji

Writer, director and producer Mohamed Al-Daradji was born in Baghdad. Al-Daradji studied Film and Television Production at the Media Academy in Hilversum, before traveling to the UK to complete two Masters Degrees in Cinematography and Directing at the Northern Film School in Leeds. 


In 2003, Al-Daradji made his first feature film ‘Ahlaam’, an insight into the chaos and confusion of a war-torn Iraq. ‘Ahlaam’ was screened at more than 125 international film festivals, received over 23 awards, and represented Iraq at the Oscar Awards and Golden Globe Consideration in 2007.


 Al-Daradji  carried on to shoot his 2nd  feature film;  ‘Son of Babylon’ (2010), that went on to screen at Sundance and Berlin, receiving the Amnesty and Peace Prize, followed by a British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), Netpac and 30 more awards globally. It was Iraq’s official entry for the 2011 Academy Awards. In 2010, he received the award of Variety’s Middle Eastern Filmmaker of the year when his documentary “In My Mother’s Arms” that premiered at Toronto IFF and won the Asia Pacific Screen Academy Award for best Documentary.


In 2013, he began working on his 5th feature film “In The Sands of Babylon”, a film that tells, for the first time, the horrors of the forgotten 1991 Iraq Uprising. The film launched at Abu Dhabi IFF and won Best film from the Arab World. 


Alongside his work as a filmmaker, Al-Daradji established the Iraqi Independent Film Center in order to cultivate an independent spirit and approach for feature films and shorts for both experienced and emerging filmmakers alike. Through the center, he has produced numerous workshops for young filmmakers, so far 12 shorts have been produced – screening in Berlin IFF and London IFF.


Today, Al-Daradji is in post-production with his latest film ‘The Journey’ about a female suicide bomber whilst developing his new feature film ‘Birds of Paradise’.
